October Sky

Snowy white twirls drift by
plaiting into balmy orange ringlets,
and dreams draped in periwinkle blue
rise beyond purple skylines…

Pale peach cloud veil hides a shy sunset.
Soaring birds in flickering lines
spurt onto the streaky sky palette
as a sleepy twilight lulls them homewards.

Like stippled cake batter in azure shades
baked golden by the evening light.
Or a hand painted canvas, freshly smudged
and left to dry on meandering winds of dusk…

In the warp and woof of breezy threads
a lost moon hemmed in lazy autumn colours
and a lilac laced festive October sky
trails the scent of a desert winter.

~ I love these perfectly warm October evenings. Gone are the hot harsh days of yearning as the sky always has something new and exciting to offer...

lucky I still see this picturesque sky every evening and I think of your poem and the cake batter in azure shades...
