Determined

Pluck my leaves
on one side
and I shall sprout
a new branch
on the other...

:: This poem is another attempt to extend strength and a fighting spirit to my dearest loved one , this Pinktober. 'Determined' refers to the undying spirit of the fighter in gathering her inner courage ::

Eclipse

The fog has lifted,
across the cursed night sky.
Clouds clear up
uncovering the lost light.
The moon was full all this while,
but its now, that his glow
reflects upon her face again.
She watches the eclipse dissolve
into the vagabond wind,
unfurling her tresses once more...

:: Last year has been a difficult fight. But she was unaware of the courage deep inside her. She is an artist... She is a mother.
Her interrupted dialogue with life has begun to blossom again. The eclipse has settled::

Sleepwalk

Neither spirit, nor excitement,
I drift backwards.
I am sleepwalking on autopilot,
mind wrapped inwards.

I justify my duties,
but I am not alive.
For a split second, I feel
I am about to wake up
and this nightmare will vanish
into that same wicked darkness,
it was born from.

Is this for real?
Pinch me, O uncanny life
to end this unsettling episode.
I want to sigh with relief
and go back to sleep like a cat.

I become an empty jar,
never to be full again.
O life, I surrender to your plans.
I shall continue to sleepwalk
through the rest of my journey.
My story will end
with the little of myself
that is now left in me…

:: Life’s baffling incidents have left me heartbroken. In the past month, I have faced totally unexpected circumstances...something that I thought, would never happen to me and my family. Maybe I have taken things for granted. Life has taken us back to where we started. I hope this is a temporary setback. But this has been enough to take away all my spirit. I don’t think I can dream any more. I don’t want to be unfair to my children. I want to wholeheartedly see my five year old’s amazing drawings that capture the finest of detail. I want to still be excited about my baby’s little developments each day. I don’t know if this is as bad as I am making it out to be. But I have forgotten how to be myself… Even if tomorrow things come back to normal, I am afraid, I won’t come back to my old expressive self. I have just lost interest in my own life. I don’t want to make any future plans or share any moments and memories.
Life is like a set of card houses. When one falls, everything collapses.

Woman with the Pink Headscarf

Why me! She questioned…
but the internal struggle had already begun.
Her body against her own mind,
in Life’s unexplained game.

Fight on, O brave woman! Fight on!
To win your true self back.
Make your body your own again.
Let disbelief not pull you down.

Negativities shall trickle down dark alleys.
Let fear not scar your resolve.
With a spirit so ardent,
Fight on O brave woman, fight on!

Slowly collecting an inner strength,
she brought back her broken hope
and set out to write upon destiny’s new page,
with a newborn verve.

Sipping on a changed flavour of life,
she now basks in the October sunshine.
More beautiful than ever before,
with pride, she wears her pink headscarf...

:: October is the Breast Cancer awareness month. This poem aims to instill hope into all those women battling with breast cancer. For someone extremely dear to me - my mother,  life changed suddenly one fine day when she found out about her cancer. Accepting yourself after such bodily changes is very difficult.  This poem is my way of extending positivity to her. I know she will fight on. She will win. For herself and for us…
