Reoriented

At my earlier workplace, I changed my workstation three times in three and a half years. I think, the last seat with additional pillows and a footstool was most comfortable for my ‘nine months’. But soon after I returned from my long break, I found the same desk very cold and impersonal.

In my current office, I relocated thrice in two years. And hence, this reorientation exercise got me thinking. Does a change of place really make a difference? Somewhere inside, I do believe, it does.
Besides vāstu śhāstra and Feng shui ,it has to do with that peculiar kind of vibe that each space owns. It correlates with the directions, surroundings, sounds, views, light and most importantly the positive energy that one gets from that place. Just like a dancer asks for all the universal energies to come to him to be able to dance with his soul, a designer needs that alignment of creative energies when at work.

I was not quite happy with my new place. For this very reason, to find out ‘for better or for worse’, I kept looking for omens that would help me join the dots of destiny. But I guess every place has its merits and demerits. It lies upon us how well we make use of them to our advantage.

This noon, the light around me is much calmer and glare free. It gives me a newer perspective to my work along with some new views of the city. The Salaam street spreads its limbs between tall buildings all the way up to Mina Zayed, leaving a sliver of the sea on the horizon. A cold wind touches my cheeks and escapes out from the small slit I made for him in the window. Weekend fragrances dance around caressing the walls, partying with varied mumbled sounds. And amid all this activity, my same sweet magic picture frame smiles back at me. Certainly with another awesome chance to redecorate my desk and my pin up board, today I relax and make peace with my new space.
