These days the demands of my growing toddler seem quite interesting for me and my husband alike.
“Amma, draw flower…” “Baba, draw fish…” And then Amma , who loves to draw, makes a fish form on the paper. And Baba, who equally enjoys drawing, creates a different type of fish. Wallah! “Two two fish!” he exclaims with joy. And this is followed by two different versions of everything almost; incidentally he turned two as well!
Now the point to be noted is that both of his parents happen to be architects. That is the real treat. In fact I look forward to his future art and craft projects with a secret underlying competition with my husband! Who will enthuse the son more! … That’s the game. And it brings out the best in everyone.
I remember my fellow classmate in Architecture College whose parents were architects. She probably knew two options to each design exercise and had learnt to pick the best out of the two from childhood. I always thought it must be so easy for her, getting to know about architecture from not one, but two people and that too, in her own home. Each day, every minute…taught to see the two artistic sides of everything! So lucky, I envied. But none other would have known, the challenge of having to deal with two freaks (if I may say so) habitually inducing their own aesthetic sense into an impressionable mind.
In our case, it sometimes goes to the lengths of fighting about which shirt matches well with his tiny pants? What I prefer is never what his Baba would have picked! So in the end, my boy gets to wear what he chooses. So that’s quite a positive twist! Let’s call it a celebration of choices …of which both are good. Both are your own. And since none should be hurt, just come up with a third option!Learn to create the new. It is a win- win situation.
Several unmade creations are waiting to be made. I continue to enjoy these stimulating “twos” all the more.
Wait!…Is this what they call the terrible twos?
~ 'Freedom of choice' is a little something that these ever changing times have offered to the little buds of the new generation . From a raw age, they are already out there presenting themselves to this world, having a life, making little decisions, choosing friends...Its a brave start!
"Several unmade creations are waiting to be made. I continue to enjoy these stimulating “twos” all the more." These words are quite loaded Nats...think about it... inner thoughts resurfacing are they? ;)
