...Marriage!
Six years ago, 24th September was a good day… weather-wise ;) I wanted to go jogging that morning but I was sure my jogging mate wasn’t going to be at Pune University as he was at the marriage hall, 8.37am sharp, sincerely wearing what was chosen for him only because it matched my sari ...ready to get married to me :D
Well actually it’s been 12 years….six years premarital and six, post. I agree, that’s a bit too much….but it still feels like a child marriage!(me being the child ;) But then again it only means we have unknowingly passed the 7 year itch long before. So we don’t have to ‘lose hair’ thinking about the next year or going over the past years with a fine toothed comb ;)
Anyway, with us Indians, once married, we become soul mates for the next seven lives!!! ---which is the most amazing concept ever. So if I trouble him in this life, he can get back at me in the next…and the one, who earns that chance in the seventh life, is the winner!
Most of us end up playing singles matches against one another, later regretting over lost time and energies that become more precious with age. I think marriage should be a friendly match of mixed doubles played against life’s challenges. If one cannot take the shot, his partner has to jump in and cover up in order to win the game.
However,on our battlefield, there are wars over rice or roti, Kerala* or Maharashtra*, Malayalam* or Marathi* ,right handed or left handed, action films or emotional drama… coconut oil or groundnut oil!!!
But amidst all this, the clear winner is that little boy, who makes us sign the peace treaty and gives his “Amma” and “Baba” the respective answers to the most difficult questions above --- pasta, Abu Dhabi, English, both, cartoons… olive oil ;)
*Kerala, Maharashtra - Indian states |*Malayalam, Marathi - Indian languages

DeleteHey Nats,
ReplyDeleteHappy Anniversary to you both! 6 years and many many more wonderful years to come. Loved your battlefield description, how apt and what a clear winner amongst the 3 of you! many kisses to that naughty boy!
btw, we celebrated our 6th Anniversary too this year on an evening flight with wine glasses (or should i say plastic glasses) in the economy seats with yoyo sprawled across both our legs on the seat in between us, heading to Singapore for the first time to face the challenges ahead of us... what a remarkable day it was!
Love
Sana
With age and kids, our ways of celebration keep getting simpler and sweeter...
