I am not a very religious person myself. Whenever we celebrate any festival at our place, my husband helps me get the confidence of doing things right. We were at our friends’ new place over the weekend to attend one such religious observance. On these occasions, I am always a bit apprehensive in my mind as I know I cannot be of much help.
After a while, Arhaant fell asleep and I actually had nothing to do at all!!! How life revolves around children, I sat there, wondering to myself…At home, I would have utilized that precious time in fulfilling my ever pending wish list or simply cleaning the house. Incidentally the babysitting duty came along my way and turned out to be amazingly satisfying! I am proud to say that I spent last Saturday noon looking after three different kids of three different friends at a friend’s place...when my own son was taking a surprisingly peaceful nap!!!
Of the three wobbly toddlers, one was a thinker…an artist in the making… the most well behaved child I have ever seen. I was trying to amuse him by rolling a toy car on his back and he was actually enjoying it! In fact a stranger spoke to me all the while assuming that the cute boy was my son…until I couldn’t tell his age right…
The second one was the daughter of a couple I met just few minutes before she started playing the toy piano sitting comfortably on my lap! Well, I had always wanted a girl…they are so delicate, shy, non-messy….so I enjoyed the exercise. It involved no exasperated running around like it does with boys…
The third tiny super hero was the highly active son of the hostess….he reminded me of my son when he was that age…just wouldn’t stop scampering about! …and on his sailing expeditions, gave me those alluring smiles…I remember I used to ask jokingly if anyone knew where the ‘off’ switch is located on these jumpy penguins…There was one point when I was simultaneously feeding two bananas to two running kids and showing the window views to the other two observant ones at another time…It was indeed a great new experience for me. Children have an awesome knack of weaving a sweet bond of attachment that seems unforgettable. I am actually missing them all!...just like I miss my boy every single day when I am at work...
This challenge brought out a side of me that I did not know of...
Love the last line.... :)

Hey Nats,
ReplyDeleteWell done you! and thanks for clarifying my doubts in the last line, even if I dont believe it yet ;) (i remember you and kk trying to convince me and satya once at our place how a second is a must for you!! maybe we managed to convince you the other way!! :))
Sadly,I missed the event and babysitting fun as I would be no help in the kitchen or the pooja either ;) except eating the prasad, at which time I am a high believer in religious rituals hahaha..
Love
Sana
