In today’s times, most toddlers grow up already having learnt to say “No” in life! We need to teach them to say “Yes” atleast sometimes and in turn learn to say “No” ourselves!
My husband has passed on his love for spicy (unhealthy) Indian food to my son. To cope up with the following “Nos” to healthy food, I came up with a little trap called Soupy Saturdays. Soups and smoothies are indeed the best way to trick feed your opinionated toddlers with some healthy balanced meals. Especially when their pampering fathers treat them with ice cream or chicken nuggets in compensation for every crocodile tear.
My father used the same one on me and my sister in our growing up years. I am taking it a step further in aesthetic terms, moving away from the everlasting beet root pink that spoiled it all for me.
Here’s my very own recipe.
: : Spinach and Peas Soup : :
o Boil spinach leaves and blend them on cooling.
o In a wok, stir fry some garlic cloves until golden brown.
o Add half boiled peas and continue to sauté the mix.
o Pour in the spinach smoothie and bring to a boil.
o Add corn flour mixed in milk.
o Then a dollop of butter(translated as Mommy’s love)
o Salt, pepper, soy sauce.
o Salt, pepper, soy sauce.
o Topped with chopped coriander and spring onion.
o And then some extra swirls of love :D
Wallah! That’s all folks. I am a true believer of cooking shortcuts ;)
Soupy Saturdays was definitely a success as I got “Hmm Nice” with every sip :D
Extra benefits are that we return home for dinner in much anticipation of the new soup recipe for that Saturday. I know, I know…we used to be cool too…But in this part of the world, Saturday nights are uncool school nights :(
definitely going to try that one... :)
ReplyDeleteas I too believe in cooking shortcuts.... ;)
